V-Color Manta XFinity RGB 48GB DDR5-8400 CL40 Memory Kit (Review)

V-Color Manta XFinity RGB 48GB DDR5-8400 CL40 Memory Kit (Review)

V-Color continues to push DDR5 memory speed limits, and this time, we received the 8400MT/s DDR5 kit from their latest Xfinity series. Right now, there are barely any competitive brands out there, who’ve actually released such high-frequency memory, even on V-Color’s product list, their highest listed memory speed is still only 8400MT/s.

It will be interesting to see how far UDIMMs can go before the release of CUDIMM (Clocked Unbuffered Dual In-line Memory Module), which we hope to review just after the official premiere of the upcoming Intel Arrow-Lake processor series.

Let’s focus on the Xfinity 48GB DDR5-8400 memory, which we tested today. As you expect, we will tell you more about the specifications and features before we move on to the memory kit’s performance.

The V-Color XFinity 8400MT/s memory kit has one XMP profile rated at DDR5-8400 CL40-52-52 and 1.45V VDD/VDDQ. It’s about the best we can get at 1.45V. In our tests, we could lower the CL to 38 and tighten sub-timings a bit, which gave us lower latency. However, it’s still not much better in real-world applications than at the XMP profile. I will return to overclocking on the next pages of this review.

The memory kit is designed for only a few motherboards, such as ASUS APEX/APEX Encore, Gigabyte Tachyon/Tachyon X, or EVGA Dark. Officially, it’s even less, as the QVL is limited to ASUS APEX and Gigabyte Tachyon X. As overclockers know, having a CPU with a powerful memory controller is more important than the top motherboard. I won’t hide that only two of the twenty CPUs we tested could run stable at 8400MT/s.
Because of the above, there is a high chance that the 8200MT/s+ memory kits will not work stable at XMP settings, regardless of how much we pay for the PC.

Like other top-speed DDR5 memory kits, the XFinity 8400MT/s uses Hynix M-die IC and Richtek PMIC, the most popular combo, fully supported by all leading motherboard brands. It’s the best we can find if we search for top-speed, overclocking DDR5 RAM.

Above is a whole timing list that reads ASRock Timing Configurator software at the XMP profile. The profile works fine with the ASUS Z790 APEX motherboard and Gigabyte B650E Master, with Ryzen 7 8700G APU. There is no RAM with EXPO profiles dedicated to AMD motherboards at such high speeds, so buying one for an AMD-based PC is always risky.

Conclusion

One more time, V-Color delivers the best RAM to the most demanding users. The Manta Xfinity series is well-designed and should satisfy every computer enthusiast, overclocker, and gamer. It’s also one of the few 8400MT/s memory kits on the market, so if we wish to have such high speed out of the box, then the choice is minimal. On the other hand, V-Color has to be sure of its quality, releasing memory at these settings, and even higher as the offer is also an 8600MT/s option.

XMP compatibility and RGB illumination were no problems during the tests. Everything was perfect, but it has to be mentioned that the list of compatible  motherboards for the 8400MT/s memory kits is very limited. If we decide on a memory like that, we must ensure that other components can handle it. If not, then the lower frequency options are not much slower and are cheaper.

The 48GB 8400MT/s version of the XFinity memory isn’t listed anywhere right now, and the 8200MT/s option costs around $279 in the V-Color store. Other stores have very different prices, which are far from reasonable. If you are interested in one of the highest-frequency kits, I recommend asking V-Color directly, as online stores have outdated prices that may change with stock availability.

Final words:

The V-Color Manta XFinity 48GB DDR5 8400MT/s combines the most important features for demanding gamers and overclockers. If you are looking for top-speed RAM that has a high overclocking potential, with a unique design and RGB illumination, then the V-Color latest Xfinity series can deliver just that!
